Dental Sedation Edmonton
Dental Anesthesia
If you feel anxious about your dental visits and are looking for a safe, effective solution, you’ve come to the right place in Edmonton. At ABC Dental Care, we offer dental care under Oral Moderate Sedation and Nitrous Oxide, ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure.
Your teeth can be treated, sore gums restored, and your smile enhanced without discomfort while you remain relaxed and almost asleep during your appointment with Dr. Monica Lau. Extensive dental treatments can even be completed in a single visit, allowing you to stop hiding your smile or enduring pain.
Dental anesthesia may be particularly helpful if you experience any of the following:
- Fear or anxiety about dental visits
- Low pain threshold or very sensitive teeth
- Strong gag reflex
- Limited time for multiple dental procedures or extensive treatments
- Children or special needs patients who may have difficulty cooperating during standard dental procedures
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide, a form of conscious sedation offered at ABC Dental Care, helps ease anxiety and increase comfort during dental procedures.
Benefits of Nitrous Oxide include:
- Adjustable sedation depth at any point during treatment
- No lingering aftereffects or “hangover”
- Safe with minimal biotransformation (~0.04%) and no significant impact on heart or lungs
- Effective in minimizing gag reflex
- Rapid onset, with relaxation and pain relief within 2-3 minutes
- Quick recovery using 100% oxygen for about 5 minutes after treatment
- No need for a companion to take you home
Nitrous oxide has been safely used in dentistry for many years, with patients receiving up to 70% nitrous oxide mixed with at least 30% oxygen. You remain conscious, breathe independently, and maintain control of all bodily functions. Mild amnesia may occur, and you may sleep lightly during the procedure.
Who Should Avoid Nitrous Oxide?
Nitrous oxide is not recommended for patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Other situations to avoid its use include emphysema, respiratory issues, multiple sclerosis, colds, or claustrophobia. Always consult with Dr. Monica Lau to discuss your medical history and determine the safest sedation option.
